A Pair of 19th/Early 20th Century Japanese Imari Style Temple Jars

A pair of porcelain temple jars with lids, in a classic Imari style. They have a rounded baluster shape that tapers to a foot and widens at the shoulders and are topped with domed lids and finial knobs.

The glaze is vibrant and detailed, dominated by rich red, cobalt blue and green against a white background. Each jar is decorated with three panels depicting figures in traditional kimonos, red floral cart on wheels overflowing with chrysanthamums and also exotic birds. These vases would work best in a space where their colour and detail can stand out- perhaps flanking a console table in an entryway, on a mantel or built in shelves in a living room or home office or as a stunning centerpiece on a kitchen island or sideboard.

Overall in good condition, no cracks, signs of wear from use mainly fading to the lid handles but ready to make a statement for years to come.
