Antique Brass Skeleton Clock – S. Cataneo, Stockton Mantel Clock
A beautiful and decorative antique brass skeleton clock, featuring an intricate exposed movement with finely crafted brass gears, elegant pierced framework and a silvered chapter ring with striking black Roman numerals. The clock is displayed beneath a clear glass dome, mounted on a soft blue velvet-covered plinth with a dark wooden base, creating a wonderfully elegant presentation.
The clock is stamped S. Cataneo, Stockton, believed to be the retailer who originally sold the piece. It was purchased from Marble Hill Gallery and comes with an accompanying historical note referencing The Skeleton Clock by F.B. Royer-Collard, page 16, which reportedly illustrates an identical example attributed to Edwards of Stockton. This provides an interesting lead into the clock’s history and provenance.
A fascinating piece for collectors of antique clocks, horology enthusiasts or those looking for a distinctive decorative statement. The intricate mechanical detailing and traditional design make it a particularly attractive display piece for a study, library or elegant interior.
A wonderful antique timepiece with an intriguing history and an excellent talking point.
