Large Italian Grand Tour Marble Bust of a Bearded Philosopher, 19th Century

This is a stunning hand carved Italian large scale classical bust styled after Roman Imperial portraiture. Artistically sculpted with curly hair, full beard, furrowed brow and draped toga.
This piece was likely inspired by Roman philosopher portraits of Hermarchos, Chrysippus and Marcus Aurelius. The contrast between the pale, creamy white carrara marble face with soft grey and beige aging in the creases and the mottled brown and gold "giallo antico" or Sienna marble draped robe gives him so much character.
Not for the average decor this peice is sure to elevate an elaborate interior filled with fine art pieces. A statement that is sure to catch guests eyes.
Overall in good condition some chipping, mainly to the base and some wear from its age but it is strong and solid. It is a heavy piece that will need 3 strong people to manoeuvre.
